I'll say it now. I had never been to Camden. I came to London in 2004 with my family. We did the touristy stuff. We spent only five days here. No time for Camden then. I also know that there are other trendy places emerging now like Spitafields, but I didn't have time to go everywhere and I really wanted to see Camden for myself. So... Here it is.
La station de métro sur la Northern Line. Il y a des travaux sur presque toute les lignes et c'est un peu le bordel dans le métro en ce moment. / The Tube station. There is a huge renovation project going in the Tube and it's hellish at times. Stations are closed. Some trains don't go where they should. Some lines are closed for one day.

Il n'y a pas que des marchés à Camden. Si j'avais eu plus de temps, j'aurais bien aimé faire une petite promenade dans le quartier. / There aren't only markets in Camden. Had I had enough time, I'd have spent some time walking around the borough.
Les marchés très colorés de Camden... On y trouve de tout mais alors absolument de tout. Quand il s'agit de bouffe, par exemple, on peut manger indien, chinois, mexicain, espagnol, thaï, brit, turc, persan, bref... / The colourful markets of Camden... You can get anything you want there. When it comes to food, for instance, there's Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Spanish, Thai, Brit, Turkish, Iranian, and so on and so forth...

D'autres étals. "The Stables" est l'un des innombrables marchés de Camden. J'ai acheté une croix en argent à la boutique qu'on peut voir sur la photo. / More stalls. The "Stables" is one of the numerous markets in Camden. I bought a silver cross at the shop you can see there.
Claudia et moi sommes arrivées à Camden vers 10h30. Nous devions rencontrer Jose vers 14h00. À midi, nous avions réussi à explorer quoi... le dixième de Camden ? Cet endroit est ri-di-cu-le.
J'ai d'abord cru qu'il ne s'agissait que de la première rue et de quelques marchés en plein air. Puis, à la fin de la rue, Claudia m'a dit qu'il y avait un marché intérieur où elle était allée la veille avec Jose. C'est à ce moment que j'ai découvert que je n'avais vu que la toute petite pointe de l'iceberg. Camden est un véritable labyrinthe et c'est vraiment peu dire.
Après la première cinquantaine de boutiques, je me suis dit que c'était vraiment impressionnant et que je n'avais jamais rien vu de tel. Cinq heures plus tard et après environ... trois cent, quatre cent boutiques différentes, j'ai compris ce qui fait la renommée de Camden. /
Claudia and I arrived in Camden at about 10:30 AM. We had to meet Jose at 2 PM. At noon, we had managed to explore maybe... a tenth of what Camden has to offer? This place is insane.
I first thought that it was restricted to the first street you see when you get out of the Tube. That and some outdoor markets. Oh, how wrong I was... At the end of the street, Claudia told me that there was another market past a bridge, where we could get food. She had gone there the day before our own visit to Camden. And that's when hell broke loose or something...
I've been to places in my life but I've never seen anything like it. There are stalls after stalls after stalls, shops after shops, booths after booths, stands after stands! Yea, at some point, the merchandise starts looking the same, but you can still find the little gems, the shops where it's actually true that someone made something himself. And GOD, it's huge. I told Claudia we'd be 80 years old by the time we'd get out of there. It never stopped.
It was marvelous. To say that it was beyond my expectations is the understatement of the year.
Cyberdog est une institution de Camden. Mon ami Laurent m'avait dit d'aller y faire un tour si je voulais acheter des trucs cyber/rave. J'imaginais une boutique ressemblant à celle qu'on trouve sur Prince-Arthur. Bon...
En entrant au Cyberdog, on se fait assaillir par du gros trance, par les néons sur tous les murs, par le décor à la Métropolis-sur-l'acide et par les DANSEURS en train de se trémousser sur des plate-formes surélevées. Comme Camden, voilà un autre endroit qui ne finit plus de finir. Il y a un premier étage, puis un sous-sol, puis un second sous-sol... /
Cyberdog is one of the most famous shops in Camden. My friend Laurent told me about it, saying it was a great place and that you could buy rave and cyber stuff there. I thought of something like that little shop on Prince-Arthur. Oh well...
You get in there, first, you're overwhelmed by the music, and the neon lights, and the DANCERS they hired, and the setting looking as if it came straight out from Metropolis-on-LSD. It's also another neverending place. There is a first floor, then a basement, and another basement...

D'autres marchés de Camden l'infini. Je suis retournée la fin de semaine passée pour aller acheter un souvenir à ma soeur... J'ai découvert au moins trois autres marchés complets à des endroits que Claudia et moi avions manqués. / More of Camden endless markets... I actually found MORE markets Claudia and I missed, when I came back last week-end to buy something for my sister.
Pas besoin de préciser que Claudia et moi avons repoussé notre rendez-vous avec Jose. Trop d'achats à faire ! / No need to say that Claudia and I delayed our meeting with Jose. Too little time, too much to buy!
